Royal Wedding Fever

Tomorrow is the royal wedding, and Sachiko and I are spending the night at Virginia’s house to watch the coverage starting at 2am Guatemala time. My brother asked, “WHY?” Frankly, there’s not much going on in rural Guatemala. We’ll live vicariously through the British.

Speaking of the Brits: for people like Paloma, who does not recognize American independence, the royal wedding is a big deal. Queen Elizabeth’s corgis invited her to the wedding, and Paloma passed along these pictures.

There has been much speculation about Kate Middleton’s dress, and Paloma’s outfit is no less noteworthy. To commemorate the day, she commissioned a couture plaid and sequin dress with hand-sewn embroidery. Never one to break with protocol, she topped it off with a hat. Only a feline fashionista like Paloma could pull off such daring ear holes. Avant garde, no?

As you can tell, Paloma and I have caught royal wedding fever. It appears to be a contained virus because no one else in Guatemala cares. Unfortunately, general indifference has not tempered our enthusiasm. I mean, what is a girl supposed to do during the endless and depressing processions of Holy Week? The answer: cross-stitch a royal wedding dress for a cat.
